How To Clean Your Home Thoroughly Amid COVID-19

As we adapt to the new normal, you might have found yourself spending more time in your residential or serviced apartments – also known as your safe haven!

During these trying times, your area of residence is also your refuge from the outside world, especially when our time spent outside should only be for essential purposes. And as we stay home, we’d want our humble abodes to be clean and free of viruses!

Even after a trip outside, precautionary measures should still be taken since studies have found that the virus can linger on surfaces for at least two days. But fret not, you can tackle this by employing proper cleaning techniques around your home with the following steps:

1. Prepare the necessary tools and equipment for cleaning

Before you start cleaning, you must protect yourself too! So, it would be best if you always started by putting on a mask along with a pair of disposable gloves to minimise your exposure to harmful chemicals and specks of dust.

Next, ensure proper ventilation by opening up all the windows! Not having enough ventilation can increase the chances of airborne transmission of COVID-19, as researched by scientists.

Last but not least, ensure that you have the appropriate disinfectants with you to get rid of germs and dirt effectively. Most importantly, don’t touch your face unless your hands are clean!

2. Clean and disinfect surfaces

Before getting down to disinfecting, you should always start by removing any visible dirt! A general rule of thumb is to start from the top to bottom – meaning, mopping the floor should come last.

And of course, don’t overlook any frequently touched areas, such as doorknobs, handles, remote control, sink faucets, and the like!

This also includes hard-to-reach places, which in this case, can be reached using dusters with expandable handles. At the same time, the duster with expandable handles can be used to slide under furniture and other appliances for a more thorough cleaning session.

If there are any dusty surfaces, wipe it down with a microfibre duster or cloth! Also, anytime you start disinfecting, do so with disposable cloths or rags instead of a spray bottle.

3. Wash the fabrics

Be it removable or not, different types of fabrics call for different cleaning procedures.

Your bed sheets, pillowcases and clothes can be washed in the washing machine and detergent.

As for fabric-covered surfaces like your carpets, mattresses and other pieces of furniture, remove the hidden dirt, dust and other microorganisms with a high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) vacuum cleaner! Then, cover the entire area with fabric-safe disinfectants and leave them out to dry.

4. Wrap up the cleaning process

Once you’re confident that every area is spick and span, start mopping every inch of your home!

But this isn’t the end. Remember all the disposable cleaning materials you used? Disposable gloves, cloth, mask, and others – just in case you need a refresher. All these items need to be disposed of properly too!

Along with other waste, throw all of it into a double-lined trash bag. Most importantly, make sure to wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap after.

5. Ensure self-hygiene

After the hectic day spent cleaning, you’re probably all sweaty. This calls for a shower because it’s your turn to freshen up by getting squeaky clean!

If you’re looking for fully furnished apartments to rent, then you’d be pleased to find out that we’re still up and running during Phase 2! But we also urge you to adhere to safe distancing rules and measures, especially when using our shared facilities to prevent the rise of a second wave in Singapore.
